PISTA NG PELIKULANG PILIPINO
The Pista Ng Pelikulang Pilipino (PPP) is a celebration of Philippine Cinema where new quality genre films are screened for one week in all regular cinemas nationwide. No foreign film is screened during PPP for the whole country to celebrate its own local films.
Also as a mechanism of distribution support, PPP’s exclusive platform allows Filipino independent producers to benefit and earn from their films and have the comparative advantage against foreign films that usually dominate the other screening dates in the year.
Serving as both a celebration and an industry event, PPP has showcased a variety of film genres to the Filipino audience and has created a venue for them to let the industry know what films move and appeal to them, thereby creating a dialogue between film stakeholders.
Overall, PPP rallies all the stakeholders of the film industry - producers and filmmakers, theaters and distributors, the audience, and the government agencies - behind Philippine cinema and empowers the platform to encourage more quality content.
From 2017-2019, PPP has showcased thirty-seven (37) full-length feature films to almost 1,000 screens nationwide, with more than 2.5 million audiences and grossing over a total of PHP 420 Million.
For 2021, the Pista ng Pelikulang Pilipino (PPP) puts the spotlight on short films as it kicked off its fifth edition with free screenings from the 25 finalists from Sine Kabataan Short Film Competition and Sine Isla: LuzViMinda Short Film Competition (hyperlink please to Sine Isla Page) last September 17 to 26 on the FDCP Channel.
PPP 5, with the theme “Bagong SineMula,” highlights the narratives of the regional filmmakers and the youth with Sine Isla and Sine Kabataan, respectively. It features ten (10) entries from Sine Kabataan, a platform that provides an opportunity for aspiring young filmmakers to expose their fresh talents, and fifteen (15) finalists from Sine Isla: LuzViMinda, a new short film competition that provides support and recognition to regional filmmakers.
On September 15, 2021, PPP 5 held its virtual Opening Ceremony to launch the Sine Kabataan and Sine Isla: LuzViMinda screenings on the FDCP Channel and introduced the filmmakers of both competitions. Furthermore, to give the participating filmmakers and audiences a platform to discuss the short films and gain deeper insights, Talkbacks with Sine Kabataan and Sine Isla: LuzViMinda filmmakers were held last September 24 and 25.
