Award Winning “John Denver Trending” To Screen in FDCP Cinematheques Across the Country
“John Denver Trending,” the winner of “Best Film” in this year’s Cinemalaya Film Festival, will be screening in FDCP Cinematheques in Manila, Iloilo, and Davao this December.
A coming of age film about a 14 year old farmboy who goes viral after attacking a classmate, “John Denver Trending” is the debut film of director Arden Rod Condez. The film has received critical acclaim with its timely treatment of the perils and frenzy of social media, and has been described as an “accomplished debut,” offering a “cautionary tale of cyberbullying” by Screendaily, as well as a statement on “the dangerous power of social media in shaping public perception and opinion...and its unrelenting negative consequences” by ABS-CBN.
During the Cinemalaya Gala Night, Director Arden Condez credited his participation in the FDCP sponsored First Cut Editing Lab held last April in Manila. The First Cut Lab is an international project that aims to support film directors by raising their works, both those in development and at post-production, to global standards.
Since its premiere in August, “John Denver Trending” has won several awards including “Best Project” in the 5th Hanoi Film Festival, and “Best Film,” “Best Actor,” and “Best Cinematography” in this year’s Cinemalaya Film Festival. It also competed in the 24th Busan Film Festival’s “Best Film” category.
