Cine Argentino at the Red Carpet

Cine Argentino on its 5th year is bringing Argentine cinematic experience once again at Shangri-La Plaza with its newly opened RED CARPET from 14 to 18 of August 2019. Focusing on contemporary film mixture of comedy, drama, mystery, and romance, the festival is set to continue the remarkable 4 years of providing quality Argentine movies. 

Dos mas dos (Two plus two), is a story of Diego and Emilia who has a 14-year-old son and a classic family life, while Richard and Betina lead a more mundane life. During a celebration, they confess to their friends that they are a swinger and that they would love to share this practice with them. This confession awakens dormant fantasies in Emilia, who insists that she and Diego should accept the invitation, and try something new.

Victor and Vera, in the movie Mamá Se Fue De Viaje (Ten 10 Days without Mom), have been married for twenty years and have four kids: two teenagers, a child, and a toddler. Víctor is constantly swamped with work and self-absorbed, completely unaware of the unpredictable home life of his wife and four children. Vera exhausted and drained from being a full-time-stay at home mum, who gets no help from her husband or her kids, takes off with a friend for Perú for ten days, leaving him in charge of his unruly kids. Víctor is forced to take leave from work, to take charge of his family at home. Almost immediately, chaos strikes. However, father and children will eventually take Vera’s trip as an opportunity to connect more deeply and to enjoy the beautiful but messy family they form.

Argentina in the early eighties from El Clan (The Clan). Within a typical family home in the traditional neighborhood of San Isidro, a sinister clan makes its living off kidnapping and murder. Arquímedes, the patriarch, heads and plans the operations. Alejandro, his eldest son, is a star rugby player at a prestigious local club and Los Pumas, the Argentine mythical national team. The son gives in to his father’s will and identifies possible candidates for kidnapping; his popularity shields him from suspicion. To a greater or lesser extent, the members of the family are accomplices in this dreadful venture as they live off the benefits yielded by the large ransoms paid by the families of their victims. Based on the true story of the Puccio family, this film full of suspense and intrigue takes place in the context of the final years of the Argentine military dictatorship and incipient return to democracy.

Relatos Salvaes (Wild Tales) is a story of inequality, injustice and the demands of the world we live in cause stress and depression for many people. Some of them, however, explode.  Vulnerable in the face of reality that shifts and suddenly turns unpredictable, the characters cross the thin line that divides civilization and barbarism. A lover’s betrayal, a return to the repressed past and the violence woven into everyday encounters drive the characters to madness as they cede to undeniable pleasure of losing control.

A story inhabited by ghosts about the erratic beginning of a relationship that takes place during the grieving process and leads to a pregnancy.  La Luz Incidente (Incident Light) is about the urgent need for a first light to come after darkness.
