FDCP’s Cine Lokal Celebrates LGBT Pride Month with PelikuLAYA
The month of June will be celebrated with the colors of the rainbow as up FDCP’s Cine Lokal celebrates diversity and pride for the LGBT month with various award-winning films from different local Film Festivals entitled: “PelikuLAYA sa Cine Lokal: An LGBT Film Festival” in partnership with different LGBTQIA+ organizations.
The lineup for this month includes the Sineng Pambansa National Film Festival 2013 drama film “Lihis” directed by Joel Lamangan starring Jake Cuenca, Lovi Poe, Joem Bascon, Isabelle Daza and Gloria Diaz. Set in the 70’s during the darkest hours of Philippine History, the film follows the story of two young NPA warriors who find themselves entangled in a web of frustration and despair but also their love for each other.
This will be followed by the CinemaOne Originals 2017 comedy film “Si Chedeng at Si Apple” directed by Rae Red and Fatrick Tabada starring Elizabeth Oropeza and Gloria Diaz. Sixty six year old Chedeng decides to come out during her husband’s wake while her best friend Apple beheads her live-in partner in a fit of rage. Bound by friendship, the two elderly women, together with the severed head placed inside a Louis Vuitton bag, set off an adventure to find Chedeng’s ex-girlfriend.
Another film from the lineup is Cinemalaya Film Festival 2014’s Best Film “Kasal” directed by Joselito Altarejos. This is starring Arnold Reyes, Oliver Aquino, Rita Avila, Ruby Ruiz and Ronwaldo Martin, and tells the story of a gay couple who resolve to stay together as their relationship is challenged when they attend a wedding.
Completing the list of June Films is the documentary film “Outrun” directed by S. Leo Chiang and Johnny Symons. The documentary provides a unique look into the challenges LGBT people face as they transition into the mainstream and fight for dignity, legitimacy, and acceptance across the globe.
