The official statement of the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP) on the revival of Pista ng Pelikulang Pilipino (PPP) in lieu of the Summer Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF)
The Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP) finds the need to clarify the statement that is now making rounds in various press releases regarding the mounting of Pista ng Pelikulang Pilipino (PPP) in lieu of the Summer Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF).
During the meeting of the FDCP and the MMFF regarding the Manila International Film Festival held at the MMDA, Chairman Romando Artes broached the idea of reviving the PPP in place of the summer film festival. FDCP Chairman Tirso Cruz III responded that the proposal has to be extensively studied. Apart from a reduced budget, the PPP is not part of FDCP programs lodged for 2024.
The concept of bringing back the PPP was a suggestion of the MMDA Chairman during a conversation which was taken out of context in a recent press conference.
The FDCP’s stand is to support and empower local festivals instead of mounting a festival of its own.
