FDCP eyes online streaming platform for Cine Lokal 'like Netflix'

MANILA, Philippines – The Film Development Council of the Philippines said Friday, May 15, that the government plans to build an online streaming service similar to popular site Netflix.

At the Laging Handa briefing, FDCP Chairperson Liza Diño said that the current cash aid extended to freelancers in the film and audiovisual industry was not enough.

“Talagang medyo blindspot dahil yung mga government programs natin ay nasa formal sector, masasabi mong mga employees, at yung mga nasa vulnerable sector natin para sa DSWD (Department of Social Welfare and Development). Pero kasi, in between ang ating mga cultural workers, film workers, audio-visual workers,” Diño said during the Laging Handa briefing.

“Alam naman natin na kahit magbubukas ang businesses 'pag na-lift na 'yung ECQ,  ang cinemas at ang ibang entertainment industries ay sarado pa rin. Kaya right now, survival ang priority ng FDCP,"
